But in recent times, it has become popular in the form of an essential oil which is basically the extraction of volatile plant compounds in the form of oil. Essential oils aim at capturing the “essence” of the plant, including its scent and flavour.

Why is rosemary oil good for hair?

According to studies, rosemary oil has anti-inflammatory properties, promotes nerve growth and improves blood circulation. As a result of these properties, rosemary oil increases the blood circulation in the scalp and prevents hair follicles from losing blood supply and falling off. Rosemary also contains Carnosic acid which heals and rejuvenates the nerves in your scalp. Apart from promoting hair growth, it is also good to deal with problems like dandruff, dry or itchy scalp and premature graying.

Now, there can be many ways in which one can reap the benefits of rosemary oil. Here are some of the simplest ways of including it in your hair care routine.

How to use rosemary oil for hair?

1. Apply it directly to your scalp

Put 4-5 drops of rosemary essential oil on your scalp with the help of a dropper and gently massage it in your scalp. Massage it in circular motions to increase the blood flow in your scalp and hence, promote hair growth. Don’t apply more than 5 drops of rosemary oil as too much of it can cause your scalp to itch. Essential oils are supposed to be used in very less quantities.

2. Mix it with another oil

If you feel that direct application of rosemary oil doesn’t give you enough to cover your whole scalp then you can mix it with your regular oils like coconut oil, almond oil, amla oil, etc. Just add 4-5 drops of rosemary oil into the carrier oil, massage it into your scalp, keep it for at least an hour and then rinse it off with a mild shampoo.

3. Mix it with your shampoo or conditioner

If you are someone who is not a big fan of oiling your hair then we have an alternative for you. You can add some drops of rosemary oil to your daily-use shampoo or conditioner and wash your hair with that. This will give your hair the benefits of rosemary oil without having to go through the process of oiling it!

Go and make use of this fragrant oil to strengthen and nourish your hair!
